Every year, we spend $4.5 billion dollars controlling and repairing damage left by Subterranean termites. License To Kill’s termite inspectors have been thoroughly trained to inspect your home, apartment complex or commercial building. Subterranean termites nest in the ground, in what is known as a “crown colony.” These crown colonies infest structures from a distance, setting up satellite termite colonies.
Evidence of subterranean termites can be found in sub areas, attics, and baseboards. Mud tubes, also known as “subterranean termite highways,” can be found in all locations of the home or building. Subterranean termites use these shelters for climate control and protection from the environment and predators. Subterranean termites will also enter the home through expansion joints or cracks in the cement slab. Sometimes room additions are built on top of an existing cement slab with the plenum space in between making treatment extremely difficult. The majority of the time, the Subterranean termites will be in the bathroom and shower areas where high moisture content is readily available. You may find shelter tubes are used by the adults of the colony to swarm in an attempt to set up a new colony.

Depending on where the subterranean termites are found during our inspection, different control methods than Drywood termites may be necessary. If subterranean termites are found coming from your sub area, we typically recommend trenching and treating the soil and pier posts around your home. Sometimes, there may be only one area infested with subterranean termites, in this case, a spot treatment may be an available option.
If termite activity is discovered in the cement slab of your home, License To Kill will drill through the slab and inject state registered termiticides that will kill the subterranean termites. After slab injection, our technician will fill the holes in the slab with cement. If your home is on a concrete slab there are several different treatments available to you. Our most effective subterranean termite treatment is to drill into the slab throughout the home. In most cases, we do not recommend complete slab drilling due to the fact that carpets and tile floors will be compromised. We recommend drilling and treating the areas that subterranean termites are found in during our inspection. If the kitchen or bathroom plumbing pipes are in the affected area, we recommend cutting a hole in the wall and installing an access panel. The access panel will allow inspection and treatment of the area, as subterranean termites commonly gain entrance to buildings through water pipes openings.
Sleeper floors are garages or rooms that have been converted by building up the floor to match the rest of the home and the level. When subterranean termites are found in there areas the floors must be cut open to allow access to the slab for drilling and treating. Outside sidewalks sometimes need to be drilled and treated along with trenching and treating the surrounding soil to ensure the eradication of Subterranean termites.

Subterranean termites require moisture to survive and are typically found coming in through the base of the structure.

Fungus or dry rot produce spores, which are like tiny seeds that are distributed by wind and water.

Wood boring beetles lay their eggs in wood and commonly damage wood facing.

Drywood termites prefer to infest dry wood and are commonly found in walls and attics.

During the framing stage, we can treat wood members with Timbor which typically provides termite protection for about a decade. Not only is Timbor great at eliminating termites, its also repellent to ants, cockroaches and other insects. Timbor helps to prevent fungus and dry rot infections in the wood members treated.
Preventative treatments are beneficial to existing structures too. Attics and sub areas have many exposed wood members which allow termites to infest the structure. If you are in the middle of a remodel, we can treat the exposed walls, ceilings and timber to protect your investment. Please note that when the areas are opened up and additional termite damage is found it may be necessary to drill and treat the wood or even fumigate the property.

We'll repair any structural or cosmetic wood damage caused by Drywood termites or other wood boring pests.
